Live Streaming…Another Tool to Tell Your Story
I have been a proponent of #livestreaming for a number of years, especially since @Periscopeco came out. I remember using Periscope to watch meetings of my PLN #ptcamp group members meet for the first time. It felt like we were there with them. And that is the point of live streaming versus recorded video. The audience feels like they are participating in the event too. Last year, we used Periscope and Facebook Live at our middle school to live broadcast events including 8th Grade Promotion. The parents and families loved it! How hard is it for working parents (even those who work shifts) to get to school for events. If they couldn’t watch live, they could watch the video replay. Or how about those out of town grandparents and relatives. Talk about building a connection to your school community!
We now live stream our Florence Rotary Club meetings each week so members who can’t attend can still be “with us”. We even had a member participate in a live auction via the Facebook stream by commenting. The live streaming has enabled the club to help tell the community what we do which often is hard to relay in words.
And the biggest benefit of live streaming..you control how your story is told. It is much harder to hijack a story when the words are coming right from the horse’s mouth.
