Much needed break, best condo we have stayed in yet in Indian Rocks Beach
We have vacationed at the Reef Club in Indian Rocks Beach for five years now. Unit 508 by far has been the most clean, nicely decorated and well stocked unit. The owners Rick and Charlotte are very responsive owners and made sure we didn’t need anything.
First off, let me start by how clean the unit was. In the past, I have had to take a full container of cleaning wipes and wipe down the cabinets in the kitchen, the refrigerator and any drawers we wished to use. Not in this unit, everything was meticulously clean. I also normally have to run the dishes and any cooking items I think I will need to use through the dishwasher before I use them. Everything was clean and in order and so it was nice to not have to do this.
Usually I bring liquid hand soap, paper towels, tissues and toilet paper. I was surprised to find all of these items already in the unit. I refilled their soap dispensers with what I had taken when we left and left the extra toilet paper and tissues that we had taken to help them with their supplies. I felt that was the least I could do for what pleasant hosts they were.
The kitchen was fully stocked. From dishes, glasses, silver ware, cooking utensils, pots, pans, storage containers (I always take extra disposables and leave behind because there are usually never enough), almost any spice that you needed, Keurig, coffee maker, blender and toaster. We cook in the unit a lot and I was never thought, I sure which this unit had something.
The beds were extremely comfortable and firm. It was an added bonus that the night stands had additional plugs in the back of them. The bed arrangement of king, two queens and one queen allowed all of us plenty of sleeping space. In past units, the owners furnished towels, but they were small and thin and not very many that you had to wash constantly. Rick and Charlotte have bought larger and very soft towels and there were plenty of them! The little touches of the rubberized mats in the bathroom drawers to keep items from sliding around are a nice touch.
The main reason we stay at the Reef Club is for the view. This unit faces the gulf and the sunsets are gorgeous. It was nice to have a larger table on the balcony that can seat six. We normally only have our two children with us, but our daughter brought a friend this year so it was nice having extra seating. The door to the balcony is a large slider that glides easily. It was warm and humid when we were there in June this year (we normally go in April) so I can imagine the nice breeze one would get when the door could be opened all the way.
We checked with Rick prior to packing and were pleased to learn that there were beach chairs in the unit. That saved some packing space in the car. There was also a skim board and a bin of beach toys and tennis rackets in the master bathroom closet.
It is really nice to have a washer and dryer in the unit and these worked great. Basic, but that is all you really need at the beach. I was also surprised to find so many hangers in the closet. I had learned in the past to take hangers because there are never enough. I picked some up for free at a dry cleaners, take and leave for other guests.
The Reef Club has undergone a number of improvements in the past few years we have been going. The elevators have been replaced, the grill area redone and this year, the building has been painted a pretty coral, tennis courts repainted, the pool area has been tiled very beautifully, pool bathrooms remodeled, security cameras installed and a new adults only decking area by the pool has been added. It is nice to see money constantly re-invested in the building. We would suggest for the small sand area behind the tennis courts which doesn’t seem to get used be turned into either a basketball court (which my son would love) or add some shade, hammocks and a fire pit area. The grounds are kept very clean, kudos to all the maintenance and grounds people! There are plenty of trash and recycling bins around the property.
And the best part of the Reef Club is the convenience of the pool and beach. Everything is just steps from your unit. No crossing streets or walking blocks. The beach is wonderful. Very gently sloping so it is safe for youngsters. Clean and not extremely shelly so it is easy to walk on in bare feet. We were excited to see a sea turtle nest was found just one building over on the beach. It was cool to see the turtle tracks up to the nest and back to the ocean. We would love to be there during hatching season sometime. And one day we will be, we will be back and plan on staying in one of Rick and Charlotte’s units again.
