The simplest things feel good

For Christmas I received a new set of pots and pans.  I still had the very first set of T-Fal pans I bought when I moved from my parents house back in 1992.  They were great pans.  I also had a set of Calphalon pans which were high quality, but they were just too heavy for me and my everyday use.  I am thrilled with my new set.  Rachel Ray in a fun blue color and a perfect weight.  This inspired me to do some cleaning out and re-arranging in my kitchen that I had been wanting to do.

The old pots and pans will be donated to homeless people who are trying to get back on their feet and into a home of their own.  They are still functional so it they will be good starter sets for them.

This past summer I did something small that made me extremely happy which lead to the progress today.  We used to have a steel trash can sitting at the end of the counter by the patio door.  It was the only place it would fit.  I hated that when you walked into the front door, that was the first thing you saw when you looked back toward the kitchen.  I finally treated myself to a cabinet pull out trash can, took a pull out drawer out from a cabinet and installed the trash can.  Something so simple, just to not see that ugly trash can sitting out made me so happy.  When I installed the trash can, I went through some other cabinets, cleaned items out for donation and freed up some cabinet space.

This previous cleaning out allowed me to move items from another cabinet by the stove out, remove the shelf and finally move the baking sheets which slide all around below the stove in the drawer to stand on their sides in a cabinet.  The new lids are now neatly organized in the drawer below the stove which has been cleaned out completely including pulling the drawer out.  They used to be stacked in a cabinet and was always disorganized.

Next step, packing up some dishes which I never use and are an heirloom with bubble wrap as I accumulate it.  When that is done, spices are moving from a lower cabinet to an upper.  Another pull out drawer is going to be removed to make space for my son’s air fryer which is now sitting on the counter top.  I just have a thing about not having clear counters.  I like things put away.  I guess I feel like I am freer if I don’t have clutter around.

Now if I can just get my desk and the basement decluttered.  I guess, one step at a time.  What are your declutter goals this year?
